Read-only mode

What happens when your trial ends or a payment fails, what still works, and how to unlock your account.

If your account has no active plan, it becomes read-only. Nothing is deleted, and you can still get paid on work you've already sent.

Why an account goes read-only

  • The free trial ended and no plan was chosen.
  • The last subscription payment didn't go through.
  • The subscription was canceled and the paid period is over.

You'll see a red banner at the top of every page that says why.

What still works

  • You and your team can sign in and view everything: customers, quotes, jobs, invoices and the schedule.
  • Customers can still open, sign and pay quotes and invoices you've already sent.
  • You can record payments you receive.
  • Anyone on the clock can clock out.
  • Everyone can update their own name, email and password.

What's paused

You can't create, edit or send anything new: no new quotes, jobs, invoices or customers, and no changes to settings. If you try, you'll see a message like "This account is read-only because the free trial has ended."

Unlock your account

The Owner does this:

  1. Click Choose a plan (or Update payment) in the red banner, or open Settings → Billing.
  2. If a payment failed, click Manage billing and update your card.
  3. Otherwise, click Choose on the plan you want and enter your card.

Your account unlocks as soon as Stripe confirms the payment. Everything is where you left it.

If you're not the Owner, ask them to reactivate the account.
