Fees explained

What you pay when a customer pays online: Stripe's standard processing fee plus a small Hello to Paid payment fee set by your plan.

Your customer pays exactly the amount on the quote or invoice. Nothing is added on their side. Two fees come out of each online payment before it reaches your bank.

1. Stripe's processing fee

Stripe charges its standard processing fee on every online payment. It's charged by Stripe directly in your own Stripe account, so you see it on each payment in your Stripe dashboard. Your rates are Stripe's standard rates for your account, shown in your Stripe dashboard.

Hello to Paid doesn't set or mark up Stripe's fee.

2. The Hello to Paid payment fee

Hello to Paid takes a small percentage of each online payment. The rate depends on your plan:

PlanPayment fee
Starter1%
Pro0.7%
Growth0.5%

It's worked out on the full amount your customer pays and rounded to the nearest cent. For example, a $1,000 invoice paid online on the Pro plan has a $7.00 payment fee.

In your Stripe dashboard it appears as an application fee on the payment. Your current rate is also shown in Settings → Payments, under Card payments.

Refunds

When you refund a card payment, the Hello to Paid payment fee on the refunded amount is returned to you. Refund half the payment and you get half the fee back.

Stripe doesn't return its own processing fee on a refund.

What has no fees

  • Payments you record yourself, like cash or checks. See Record a payment.
  • Offline methods your customer chooses, like Venmo or Zelle, that you mark received.

Only payments made online through Stripe have fees.

Your subscription is separate

Your monthly plan price is billed separately and isn't taken out of customer payments. Moving to a higher plan lowers your payment fee. See Plans and features.

Tip: Payouts to your bank follow your Stripe payout schedule. Click Open Stripe Dashboard in Settings → Payments to see them.
